Kentucky

9. Louisville – 30 April 2011

Home of the Kentucky Derby and the Louisville Slugger!

I love horseracing — when I lived in England, I spent many weekends travelling the turf — visiting various race courses around the country. For many years I lived in Newmarket, Suffolk — home of two English race courses, a thriving horse racing industry, and the beautiful Newmarket Downs.

With Kentucky being the home of horseracing in the US, and the famous Louisville Downs, this race was bound to be special — and it was. A course that roamed around downtown, near the Ohio River (course had to be re-routed at the last minute due to flooding from heavy rains) — and then a lap of the Kentucky Derby course — all 8 furlongs! I really enjoyed that part!
