Illinois

28. Chicago – 9 September 2012

Gotta love Chicago – great place, and I always like going there.

This was a good race — the day before was fantastic weather, race day was equally as good, and the course was a good one.

I flew into O’Hare Airport, got a car and headed downtown. The expo was at the Navy Pier, and I got my number and then went to the Hilton on Michigan Avenue. Great location, and within walking distance of just about anything.

Race day, got up with plenty of time to spare, and headed downstairs to the get a taxi to Jackson Park (a few miles south). There were a few other runners thinking the same thing, but few taxis. Those taxis that were available were complaining that it was taking over an hour to travel due to road closures. Time was ticking on, so needed a cab fast!

Managed to get a taxi and shared it with two out of town Doctors. These guys were good friends who made a point of coming to Chicago every year to run this same race. Because they knew the area, they convinced the taxi driver to head to the start line via some side streets – and we made it in under 20 minutes! Many other people ran very late to the start due to the traffic.

The race was good, scenic and fast – very enjoyable day. I’m sure those Doctors have been back every year since — this race is just the prescription!
